There are churches that have had an inspiring past. Others are experiencing a promising present. But neither of those facts are nearly as important as the vision that the leadership of a congregation has for the future. Reidville Presbyterian Church is committed to making disciples who love God and His Word and serve His People and His World, by His grace. This vision statement isn't some slick public relations tool that we've designed to look good to those on the outside looking in.? This statement states?five purposes that we seek to fulfill corporately as a congregation and individually in our own lives as members of this church.?? Purpose #1: Making Disciples It's God's will for us as a church is to?make disciples.? This first commitment is simple obedience of what many in the Church call "The Great Commission" (Matthew 28:18-20). In practical terms, this simply means?showing love of God to all those around us in a way that is winsome (Outreach).? Purpose #2: Loving God What is the highest goal of the disciple?? They are to?love God with all that they are and all that they have (Worship).?The way that we express?our love for God and increase in the love that we have for God is through worshipping Him. It's the end for which we were created and the means through which we are made truly happy people. Purpose #3: Loving God's Word But we worship God not only on Sundays, but by becoming more?like of Jesus, and means through which God makes us more like Jesus is through God's Word, the Bible.?When we teach converts?what the Bible says and how to apply it to every area of their life, then they becoming a living sacrifice that is pleasing to God (Spiritual Formation). Purpose #4: Serving God's People But even though the Word of God is one of the means through which the Christian is made more like Christ,?Jesus said that the world will know that we are His disciples when we show love for other Christians (Fellowship). And this love is most obvious when we serve?fellow members of a local congregation and other believers in churches throughout the World. Purpose #5: Serving God's World But the disciple doesn't merely show his love to only those who are part of the spiritual family, but to those who have yet to?receive the grace of God.?Part of loving our neighbor as we love ourselves is to love those who have nothing to offer us. This is the heart of all missions, but especially to acts?of mercy. We fulfill our purposes through the power of grace Outreach, Worship, Spiritual Development, Fellowship, and Mercy are the five purposes of Reidville Presbyterian Church, but the power source of these purposes is nothing less than the Grace of God. It's the grace of God that saves the sinner, through faith, but?the same grace that rescues the Christian from?a life of eternal separation from?God also equips the Christian to do good works.?We won't become the church that God desires for us to be by legalistic promises to try harder, but in trusting in God to complete the work that He began in us.
